Feeling Caged or Flying Free

Earlier this week a friend of mine was telling me about her search for the perfect birdcage necklace and I suddenly remembered I had seen a beautiful collection of cage jewellery somewhere on my internet wanderings. I couldn't remember who the artist was or where I'd seen it but I eventually managed to track it down and I'm glad to say it is every bit as good as I remember.

The collection I was thinking of was Allison Wells thesis collection. There are 3 parts to her project. First the Interactive 2D Birdcage Necklace, which has a birdcage necklace which can be worn either with a bird hanging in the cage or empty with an escaping bird brooch.

Then there is the Interactive 3D Birdcage Necklace which has a removable bottom so that the user can take out and change the bird or human on the inside.

And lastly, my favourite, the Interactive Circus Cage Brooch which can open so that the user can change the animal human in it or wear it empty with a free animal brooch.

The silver version of the 2D Interactive Birdcage Necklace is for sale on her Papersnake website, as well as some of her other really cool jewellery, suchas the Black Sheep Necklace and the Scissors Cuff links. Definitely worth a look!

P.S. To help S. on her search for her perfect birdcage necklace - If you don't find what you're looking for there, I recommend searching Etsy. There are hundreds (alright so I'm exaggerating it was 114 when I searched) of results for birdcage jewellery of all types, metals, colours and prices so I'm sure you'll find something you like. If you still can't decide, have a look on Dawanda, which also brought up some really pretty results. Hope you find one you like!

These are the embodiment of everything I love about jewellery! Oh, to have a spare $1500 for that last set... sigh.
