Deka Ray and United Bamboo

Despite the bitter reminder of our complete lack of summer weather I am actually enjoying New York Fashion Week. I look forward to getting up every morning and spending an hour (or two!) catching up on all the previous days shows. Its obviously a little difficult to reconcile what I'm seeing with anything that I'll be wearing for at least the next 6 months but nevertheless a few things have started to pop out at me.

One thing that is always completely independent of weather is jewellery, and there have been some nice designs in a number of shows, but the one which has really stood out so far is the jewellery by Deka Ray at the United Bamboo show.

The jewellery and custom made hairslides were made of lasercut wood and perspex, twine, ships rope, as well as glass beads, chain and ribbons. They seemed to be part of Deka Rays Outland collection (below) and their sharp shapes and hard materials were the perfect accompaniment to United Bamboo's soft simple silhouette's. Deka Ray's designer Eugenie Huang is also an architect - which of course could be one of the reasons I love her work so much! But I have to say I loved the United Bamboo collection itself - its simple relaxed prettiness is the kind of thing I'd love to be wearing next summer - if we get the weather of course.

I have been lusting after some jewellery like that...they keep making comebacks on the runway!

Can't believe the summer arrived for about 2 days and has remained cloudy and rainy ever since! I need to move to sunnier climes!
