Not-so-shabby chic

This beautiful weekend retreat near Honfleur in France was designed by Lode Architects. It is built on the site of a barn, from which it got its dimensions (12m x 4.5m), and its familiar form. Inside however, it is far from barn-like. The interior is organised around a central core containing all the functions (kitchen, stairs and toilet), leaving both ends free for large square windows that frame views of the meadow. The dining area is at one end and the living area at the other. A luxurious looking bath shares the living area and commands a beautiful view out the window. French doors open out from the narrow galley kitchen onto a large patio deck to allow for alfresco dining. The first floor is the sleep area and is undivided except for curtains that can be pulled over to provide some privacy to the beds at either end. (Plans on Wallpaper.com)

The architects describe the cabin as a 'deluxe shed' but its a shed I wouldn't mind staying in for a nice weekend break! I love the idea of a little cabin in a meadow to escape to at weekends, sitting out on the patio with your coffee, having picnics in the meadow and taking long luxurious baths staring out at the view. It would be the perfect way to unwind and relax from the fast paced city lives the owners are sure to have.
Its a flexible little weekend getaway. Its obviously the perfect location for a romantic weekend but also plenty of room for a little family, if you count those rather narrow looking single beds over the windows. I can imagine little kiddies in their swimsuits all jumping into the fancy bathtub as a makeshift paddle pool. Definately beats a caravan in a field in Bally-middle-of-nowhere and bucket of water from a stream!
